If you work in QC but most of your friends’ offices are in Makati or BGC, hats off to you. Because you’re probably the one who has to sacrifice your sanity to brave Friday night traffic just so you can go hang out with them in their turf.
But hey, the next time your squad’s planning a drinking sesh, insist on having it in QC. Because if you didn’t already know, quite a handful of bars have popped up in the area and they’re just as cool as the ones in the CBDs!
Not only will your friends get to enjoy a change of pace, but you’ll also be saving yourself from hours on the road. It’s win-win for everyone!
1. 5YNCO Bar
Most bars look the same these days, revolving around either the minimalist or industrial themes. But 5YNCO Bar prides itself as a maximalist, meaning you can expect a more warm, welcoming vibe here that a lot of millennial hangouts lack. Aside from making their guests feel right at home, they’re also good at whipping up delicious food and drinks that will complete your Friday night out with your crew.
They have a bunch of fun and creative cocktails on the menu as well as more classic alcoholic beverages like whisky, rum, and vodka. As for bar chow, you can munch on things like 5YNCO Nachos, Manong’s Fishball, and Angus Beef Salpicao as you sip on your drink of choice.
5YNCO can be found on the 2/F of 2 Sct. Lazcano St., South Triangle, Quezon City, Metro Manila.
There’s nothing more an introvert would hate than to go hang out in a cramped, noisy bar where they’d have to speak extra loud to be heard. If you can relate, hit up 78-53-86 and you won’t have any of these problems! This tiny whisky bar along White Plains has everything you need for a relaxing night out: a secret location, minimalist design, soft jazz music playing in the background, and a nice selection of boozy drinks.
If cocktails are what float your boat, some of the favorite picks here are the Whiskey Sour, Old Fashioned, and In A Silent Way. But of course, you can’t leave a whiskey bar without trying out their specialties like the Nikka Pure Malt and Nikka Whisky.
78-53-86 can be found on the 2/F of 42 Katipunan Ave., White Plains West, Quezon City, Metro Manila.
3. Chill Top Roofdeck Restobar
It may be hard to believe but the chaos of the metro can actually look quite beautiful, especially if you observe it from a lofty vantage point. Like Chill Top Roofdeck Restobar, for example! This 3-storey bar is nestled on top of a condominium, giving you an obstructed view of the city lights. Its first floor is the KTV area, while the second floor is an air-conditioned lounging area. The third floor is open-air, making it the perfect place to take the scenery in.
As you admire the view, you also get to fill up on comfort food and drinks! They have finger food like Perfect Kropek, Prench Pries, and Garlic ‘Shrooms, as well as main entrees like Sizzling Sisig, Adobol, and Pata Q. To go with all of that, you can get yourself a bottle of beer or some cognac or gin.

5. Straight Up Roof Deck Bar
There are a few differences between the view of BGC and the view of QC. For one, the former is definitely not as busy with cars and it’s also not as crowded with buildings. If that sounds like the kind of scenery you’d like to take in after a stressful day at work, Straight Up Roof Deck Bar is the spot to hit up! Situated on the 24th floor of Seda Vertis North, pull up a chair here and you’ve got yourself the perfect view for the night.
If you’re coming on an empty stomach, you can start off with appetizers like the Flavored Chicharon and Croquettes then proceed to heavier entrees like the Salmon Kabob and Sisig. For drinks, they’ve got cocktails, mocktails, cognac, brandy…you name it!
