Thanks to Netflix, weekends have become synonymous to binging on series after addicting series while simultaneously depleting your supply of snacks. This ‘activity’ is fun for a while but there are only so many episodes of Queer Eye you can watch before you start questioning your choices in life.
So instead of clicking on the ‘next’ button, slip into your workout clothes and head to any of these rock climbing gyms in the metro! Not only is rock climbing a great exercise for the body and the mind, but it’s also the perfect change of pace from the hermit life. The best part is, you’ll have an actual story to tell when your office mates ask you how your weekend was!
1. Camp Sandugo
Market! Market! is home to a hodgepodge of shops but I bet you didn’t know that there’s a rock climbing facility in there too! Located on the 5th floor of the mall beside the cinema is Camp Sandugo, the perfect place to hit up if you’ve gotten bored of window shopping.
The 44-foot wall poses plenty of challenges for the experienced climber to overcome, but it also has portions for those who are just starting out in the sport. If you want to just practice your grip and get a feel of what it’s like first, they’ll allow you to climb from side to side without any charges.
Camp Sandugo can be found on the 5/F of Market! Market!, Mabini Ave. cor. McKinley Parkway, Bonifacio Global City, Taguig, Metro Manila.
2. Climb Central
If you want the most comfortable, non-sweaty climbing experience ever, there’s Climb Central for you. The fees in this state-of-the-art rock climbing gym from Singapore are pricier compared to that of the other places on this list, but you’ll certainly get what you pay for!
The entire thing is air-conditioned so you don’t have to worry about your hands getting sweaty and losing their grip. They also have a total of 49 lines so you don’t have to stand around to wait for your turn. On top of that, their modern belaying system is extra safe–you don’t even need a partner to spot you!
Climb Central can be found at The Portal, Greenfield District, Shaw Blvd. cor. Mayflower St., Mandaluyong, Metro Manila.
3. Edge Climb Gym by TUD
The Upper Deck, a new lifestyle and sports center in Pasig, has all the facilities needed to impress any fitness junkie. They have basketball courts, badminton courts, a yoga studio, as well as a recently-opened rock climbing area called the Edge Climb Gym.
You’re in for a thrill because not only is their wall the tallest in the metro, but it’s also the only one set outdoors. This way, you get a close feel of what it’s like to climb a real mountain. It’s extra thrilling to have the wind blow against you as you try to reach for the next rock to hold onto!
Edge Climbing Gym can be found on the 6/F of Technopoint One Bldg., Julia Vargas Ave., Pasig, Metro Manila.
4. Power Up
Opened in the early 90s, Power Up was the very first indoor rock climbing gym to make the sport accessible to the public. Two mountaineers from UP started it all with the hopes of drawing in people who love fun and adventure as much as they did.
Now with three gyms in the metro, they’ve built a supportive community of climbers over the years. So if you’re a worried beginner, don’t sweat it because you’ll most likely be taught by a friendly instructor as well as cheered on by the other climbers. You’ll also find yourself inspired by the pros who often come here to train!
Power Up can be found at these locations.
