What are some popular things that come in groups of five? There’s the Jackson Five, of course, and a good number of music’s best pop groups. The Backstreet Boys. The Spice Girls. One Direction. For TV, you have the Power Rangers as well as the Mystery Inc. from Scooby-Doo.
Here in looloo, awesome things come in fives too! Like our Top 5 monthly looloo review picks! It’s a pretty new thing so if you’ve just caught up with all that’s been going on, don’t worry because we’re happy to explain it again for you.
Starting last September, each member of the looloo crew will pick a favorite review from the app every month. Each of us has our own reasons for choosing a review but what all five picks have in common are they’re well-written and have Instagram-ready photos. It’s that simple!
For October’s rundown of top review picks, we chose two travel reviews and three restaurant reviews!
1. Bernisse C.’s looloo review of Bean Voyage Coffee Co.
We really, really love getting reviews about foodie finds from outside Metro Manila and this one happens to be about a cafe from all the way in Cagayan de Oro! You might have already guessed from its name that Bean Voyage Coffee Co. is a travel-inspired cafe and in her looloo review, Bernisse C. tells us about all the travel decor you can find here.
“The antiquated interiors of the cafe exhibits a world map (using coffee beans!) and a group of wall clocks displaying the time in various famous cities,” she says. “It also has several posters and photos of different cities across the world showcasing their best picturesque spots. IG fanatics would definitely love it here.”
She even mentions a pretty cool drink on the menu in her review! Called the Selfie Coffee, it uses your preferred photo as its latte art. All you have to do is upload and send your selected picture to Bean Voyage’s Facebook page. Pretty cool, huh? Bernisse thinks that it gives your coffee “a very personal flair.”
Bean Voyage Coffee Co. can be found at 27 Pabayo Street, Cagayan de Oro, Misamis Oriental.
2. Cathrain V.’s looloo review of Misibis Bay
Cathrain V. is one of our newest reviewers on the app (she only joined this October!) and we find it super awesome how her reviews are brief but concise, well-written, and contain really good shots. Like this review she has done of Misibis Bay!
Just looking at her photos alone is enough to make us all want to hightail it to the newly-reopened Boracay just to see what Misibis Bay has to offer. Sadly, that’s much easier said than done but Cathrain’s looloo review covers what we all need to know about this gorgeous place. In fact, she even calls it “one of the most beautiful places” she has seen.
“The place is really beautiful. It was so picturesque and Instagrammable. They also have lots of pools, for adults and kids, around the resort,” she narrates. “Their rooms on the other hand scream luxury. It was very beautiful.”
Misibis Bay can be found on Caragay Island, Boracay, Aklan.
3. Herl C.’s looloo review of Tangke Saltwater Lagoon
Herl C. has become one of looloo’s top travel reviewers, constantly fueling our wanderlust with her breathtaking photos and detailed reviews about the places she visits around the Philippines. One of her more recent trips brought her to the town of Carles in Iloilo where she got to visit tourist destinations like Isla de Gigantes and the Tangke Saltwater Lagoon.
In her looloo review of Tangke Saltwater Lagoon, she calls this destination “every traveler’s dream”. “The body of water is surrounded by captivating rock formations. Water was green in color because of the plant’s reflection,” she describes.
We really like how she included some travel tips and reminders, which can certainly help anyone who’s planning to visit Tangke Saltwater Lagoon! One of her reminders is to first secure your Tangke Entrance Pass and pay the environmental fee of ₱75/head at Balasan Port. If you’re visiting Tangke Saltwater Lagoon, you should also keep in mind that there is a 15-minute time limit per group at the lagoon and feeding of animals is not allowed.
Tangke Saltwater Lagoon can be found on Isla de Gigantes Sur, Carles, Iloilo.
4. Jomarie A.’s looloo review of Tsokolateria
A few weeks ago, Jomarie A. took her mother with her to explore the best of Tagaytay and kept everyone on looloo up-to-date with very detailed reviews and Instagram-worthy photos! One of the places they checked out during their first day in Tagaytay is Tsokolateria, which is located inside The Boutique Bed and Breakfast.
Of course, no visit to Tsokolateria is complete without trying the Tsokolate Eh, which Jomarie rated as five stars in her looloo review.
“A bittersweet hot chocolate perfect for those who are not that fond of sweet drinks. The chocolate is very thick, and the slight roasty flavor gave the drink an interesting aroma,” she says. “A serving is already good for 2 people, who get about 2 cups each. Great value for money!”
They also ordered the Smoked Bangus, Danggit Chicharon, and Garlic Cacao, which Jomarie says “boasts of various colors, which were too pretty to eat”, as well as the Calamares Pandesal.
Tsokolateria can be found inside The Boutique Bed & Breakfast Hotel, 45 Tagaytay-Nasugbu Highway, Silang Crossing East, Tagaytay, Cavite.
5. Norman Lester T.’s looloo review of Blocleaf Cafe
Norman Lester T. starts off his looloo review of Blocleaf Cafe by saying that “there are a lot of coffee shops in Metro Manila but it seems that most of the specialty and third wave ones are in Makati and Quezon City.” We think this is so true, which is why it’s pretty awesome that he did a review for one found in the city of Manila!
If there’s one thing that he clearly enjoyed about Blocleaf Cafe, it’s the service. Calling it “impeccable”, Norman gives a shout out to the barista, who even let him enter the kitchen and operate the coffee machine!
“The barista was super kind and accommodating,” he shares. “She offered everything without even asking – wifi password, water, her photography skills, and her knowledge about the best spots of the cafe and where to take the best photographs. She’s really cool.”
As for the drinks, he got to try the Cafe Latte, and the Thai Iced Tea, which he described as “milky, but with a pronounced tea flavor.”
Blocleaf Cafe can be found at 1850 M. H. Del Pilar Street, Malate, Manila.
