The looloo Lowdown: A Guide To Where We Ate In September 2018

This won’t come as a shock to anyone but looloo reviewers love to eat. Like, a lot. And they love to do so together!

Like one big hungry barkada, the looloo team meets up with looloo reviewers on the regular to try out all sorts of food in different restaurants around Metro Manila. (Of course, the eating only begins after everyone has taken loads of *aesthetic* food shots for their looloo reviews!)

If you’re curious where and what the looloo community has been eating recently, here’s a roundup of the restaurants and dishes we’ve tried this month of September. There was a hole-in-the-wall hotdog joint, a new Vietnamese restaurant, and the famous bakeshop that got featured in Sex and the City!

Note: We’re making this a monthly thing so stay tuned if you want in on the interesting restaurants to try out in the metro!

1. Costa Coffee

Costa Coffee is Metro Manila’s little slice of the UK. Considered the number one coffee shop chain in that part of Europe, people can’t get enough of their Flat White as well as their other coffee-based beverages and pastries.

When looloo reviewers got invited to Costa Coffee, they were lucky enough to get to try the recently-launched Wafflewich as well as the new Cold Brew flavors on the menu. And there were ~plenty~ of variations for each!

The Wafflewich was served in three flavors, namely the Berry Butter, Cream Cheese, and Choco Banana. The Cream Cheese variant was the crowd favorite of the night, loved for its thick, warm waffles and generous smothering of cheese!

As for the Cold Brew, they got to sample 6 flavors: Black, White, Vanilla, Caramel, Mojito, and Cold Brew with Whipped Cream.

Costa Coffee can be found at these locations.

2. M Bakery

Ever since Magnolia Bakery opened up its first branch in New York in 1996, they’ve been continuously growing in popularity around the world. It helped too that their pretty cupcakes starred in Sex and the City alongside Carrie Bradshaw!

Now that they’re here in Metro Manila as M Bakery, looloo reviewers were able to get the chance to taste their bestsellers. Their famous Banana Pudding, made with layers of vanilla wafers, fresh bananas, and creamy vanilla pudding, was of course included in the lineup!

In his looloo review, Pat D. shared some insider information about the Banana Pudding: “They have 14 other flavors that will be rotated every month. Meaning, there’s a new banana pudding flavor to expect every month.”

If you’re wondering, the other favorites of the night were the Ube Cupcake (a Manila exclusive), the Calamansi Cheesecake, and the Blueberry Jubilee.

M Bakery can be found on the G/F of One Bonifacio High Street, 5th Ave. cor. 28th St., Bonifacio Global City, Taguig.

3. Propaganda Bistro

Propaganda Bistro’s flagship store may be in Vietnam but you can expect their new branch here in Metro Manila to deliver the same experience.

Jairus D. captured the very essence of the restaurant in his looloo review, saying: “What sets Propaganda from the rest was the fact that they were able to put a spin on the traditional cooking while maintaining the core concept of each dish.”

When looloo reviewers got to dine here, they were served dishes that went beyond the typical pho and banh mi. They got to feast on things like the Propaganda Edamame Salad, the Propaganda Bun with homemade lightly fried egg tofu, and the Crunchy Tri-Colored Rice Bowl with barbecue pork and vegetables.

The meal ended with their Ca The Sua Da, iced Vietnamese coffee sweetened with condensed milk. The looloo reviewers loved this one!

Propaganda Bistro can be found on the 2/F of Greenbelt 5, Legazpi St., Ayala Center, Makati, Metro Manila.

4. Shi Lin

If you’re a foodie traveling to Taiwan, one of the best places to add your itinerary is the Shilin Night Market. Although you can stuff your face with the same kinds of Taiwanese food right here in Metro Manila–just pull up a chair at Shi Lin!

It was a massive feast when looloo reviewers dropped by for a meal. The table was covered with all sorts of dishes including Xiao Long Bao, Hakaw, Braised Beef Noodles, Fried Rice with shrimp, pork, and egg, and Nutella Dumplings!

It wasn’t a surprise that their bestselling XLB won over everyone’s taste buds. Bella J. raved about in her looloo review, saying: “What I like most about Shi Lin’s XLB is that it doesn’t give me the umay feeling after, unlike the XLB in other restos. Really yummy!”

The Nutella Dumplings were another big hit. “The dumplings were so cute and small but once you eat it, the Choco Nutella filling will burst inside your mouth,” said Camille S. in her looloo review.

Shi Lin can be found at these locations.

5. Three Guys And A Grill

If you’re wondering who the three guys are behind Three Guys And A Grill, one of them is a Swiss, another is a Kiwi, and the other a Filipino-American. And they all have a passion for serving the best hotdog buns in Metro Manila!

While hotdogs are the focal point of the menu, looloo reviewers had the opportunity to try out their new burgers. And they all loved it! Their burgers are special because they’re made with potato buns and beef patties with less fat in them.

The Kiwiana Burger, which has lettuce, tomato, cheddar cheese, onions, grilled pineapple, and fried egg, was the clear favorite among everything that was served that night. As looloo reviewers put it, it’s the better version of Jollibee’s Aloha Burger.

If you’re planning to drop by, just be warned that the place is on the small side. It’s better to order and go!

Three Guys And A Grill can be found at 4364 B. Valdez St., Poblacion, Makati, Metro Manila.
